Zimbabwean journalist and political prisoner Blessed Mhlanga has been denied bail by the Zimbabwean High Court, bringing shame not only to the country but specifically to the captured and unprofessional judiciary!

Mhlanga has been in detention for 25 days today, arrested purportedly for broadcasting incitement material after interviewing war veteran and former intelligence officer Blessed Geza, who is the face of opposition to Mnangagwa’s attempt to violate the constitution and secure a third term.

Mhlanga’s arrest came after he interviewed Jealousy Mawarire, who exposed a corrupt attempt to steal the publicly owned People’s Own Savings Bank on Blessed Mhlanga’s television show.

Immediately after the broadcast, Mnangagwa’s spokesman, George Charamba, posted that Mhlanga was going to get into trouble because of the interview.

A few days later, after that ominous post, Mhlanga was arrested, denied bail at the magistrates’ court, and jailed.
He then appealed against this magistrates ruling at the High Court, but unfortunately the High Court rules against his appeal.

As reported some days ago on this page, it was known that the courts have received political orders not to release Mhlanga, making a mockery of Zimbabwe’s constitution, which treats bail as a constitutional right unless there are serious issues—of which there are none in this matter.

His arrest and detention are meant to instil fear in the media fraternity, something that is now self-evident as journalists are increasingly afraid to dive deep into exposing corruption.
Blessed Mhlanga is innocent, Zimbabweans must now stand not only with him but with his family during these trying times.

Prison is a very lonely place. It is a massive burden to worry about your fate while also being unable to provide for your family.

We will set up a GoFundMe campaign for all those who have been asking to contribute, now that we know he will be in jail for a while.
The captured judiciary has confirmed through his denial of bail that there is nothing legal about this case—it is political!
