From a crayon-doodling kid who spelled “church” wrong to a USN Nuclear vet who enlisted right after 9/11 — this is my story.
9/11 hit me in a McDonald’s breakroom. I watched the towers fall and felt the call to serve. Boot camp, nuclear power school, deployments — I saw government bureaucracy up close: favoritism over merit, red tape that stalled good people, and systems that failed the very folks they were supposed to protect.
Then came the 2008 crash, unemployment, a pork plant where safety was duct-taped together, union wars in Illinois that turned “us vs. them” into daily combat, a house that wouldn’t sell, a miscarriage that tested our marriage, and a 2023 thyroid cancer scare that left me staring at my own mortality while the healthcare machine dragged its feet.
In the dark, I found Christ again. Liberty University. Scripture like Galatians 6:5 hit different. Personal responsibility. Faith over fear. Merit over mandates. I started listening — really listening — to conservative voices that made sense of the chaos I’d lived.
That journey from apathetic millennial to faith-driven conservative is in my book The Evolution of the Millennial Mind: Beliefs and Values Amongst Current Political Turmoil.
Part 1 is raw life. Part 2 is the “cracks” — 9/11, bureaucracy, economic betrayal, workplace wars, mortality, and spiritual revival — that forged my worldview.
Epilogue truth: Big government programs failed me. Faith, family, hard work, and conservative principles didn’t. Millennials, it’s time to reject the victim narrative, reclaim agency, build real community, and stand on truth.

I served in the United States Navy from 2004 to 2009. Deployed during the height of the Global War on Terror. Saw firsthand what radical Islamist terrorism looks like — the ideology that drove 9/11, the attacks on our ships and bases, the beheadings, the suicide bombings targeting civilians and fellow service members.
It’s not 'Islamophobia' to call it what it is: a violent jihadist threat rooted in a specific strain of Muslim extremism that refuses to coexist with the West.
