Iraqi PM Ali al-Zaidi met with US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, reaffirming September 30 as the final date for ending the US-led Global Coalition’s military mission in Iraq and saying October 1 will mark a “new phase” for Iraq, with no foreign military presence and full national sovereignty - statement

Al-Zaidi also stressed that all weapons must be placed exclusively under state authority, saying this is essential to strengthening state sovereignty, ensuring security and stability, and advancing Iraq’s development and prosperity.

استقبل رئيس مجلس الوزراء السيد علي فالح الزيدي، اليوم الأربعاء، قائد القيادة المركزية الأمريكية السيد تشارلز براد كوبر.

وأكد السيد الزيدي، خلال اللقاء، الالتزام بالجداول الزمنية المتفق عليها، التي تقضي بأن يكون يوم 30 أيلول المقبل موعداً ثابتاً ونهائياً لإنهاء المهمة العسكرية للتحالف الدولي في العراق، واستكمال مغادرة قواته.

وبيّن السيد رئيس مجلس الوزراء أن الأول من تشرين الأول المقبل سيكون يوماً جديداً في مسار الدولة العراقية، إذ سيكون العراق خالياً من أي وجود عسكري أجنبي، وقد استكمل سيادته الوطنية على أراضيه، وواصل بناء قدراته الأمنية والعسكرية، بما يمكنه من حماية أمنه واستقراره بنفسه.

وفي هذا السياق، دعا السيد رئيس مجلس الوزراء إلى الالتزام بمبادئ الدستور والثوابت التي تقوم عليها الدولة، والحفاظ على مصالحها العليا، وتوجيه طاقات أبناء الشعب نحو البناء والإعمار والتنمية، مؤكداً أن العراق اليوم بحاجة إلى جهود جميع أبنائه لبناء اقتصاد قوي، ودولة مستقرة، ومستقبل أفضل للأجيال القادمة.

وشدّد سيادته على أن حصر السلاح بيد الدولة، وفقاً للقانون، يحمي الجميع، ويعزز سلطة الدولة وسيادتها، ويضمن الأمن والاستقرار ويمثل شرطاً أساسياً للانتقال بالعراق الى مرحلة جديدة من التنمية والازدهار.

وأكد الجانبان الاتفاق الكامل والنهائي على إنهاء المهمة العسكرية للتحالف الدولي، وفقاً لما تم الاتفاق عليه خلال زيارة السيد رئيس مجلس الوزراء إلى واشنطن منتصف تموز الماضي، وشددا على أن العلاقات العراقية الأمريكية ستنتقل نحو التعاون والشراكة في المجالات الاقتصادية والتنموية والأمنية، على أساس الاحترام المتبادل للسيادة والمصالح المشتركة للبلدين.

October 1, 2026 is framed as “a new day” for the Iraqi state: Iraq free of any foreign military presence, national sovereignty fully restored over its territory, and security/military capabilities built to the point that Iraq protects itself.

The relationship now shifts from military presence to economic, developmental, and security partnership based on mutual respect for sovereignty.

The economic pivot is explicit.

Troops out, companies and partnership in. The Washington visit already linked energy/oil deals and investment to progress on the militia file and the September deadline.
