Musoni Mashona Stud (MUS) initially acquired pregnant cows from Mark Stubbs, and later introduced a remarkable bull & heifers from Blue Gums.We strongly believe indigenous cattle may be the solution to current challenges, particularly concerning the prevalence of Jan Disease.
Been away retooling🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿Our planted seed project didn't go as planned due to germination issues. Not sure if its the seed, the soils or rains? There was an unexpected turn of events as we accidentally planted Paspalum notatum, specifically Bahia Grass, which thrived🙏🏿🙏🏿
It’s a pass..Our Mashona cattle successfully made it through the first inspection. Grateful for the team’s efforts to adhere to standards that at times seem too high. 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Spray race installation almost complete. We learned early on we could not rely on the local dipping station. The dipping committee members have the proverbial sticky fingers. Weighing station still a work in progress.
@Olerato007 Nuitrition partly. Once we formulated better food the mothers’s milk production went up. We also noticed winter births were bad for mortality
The new kiddies have started dropping. Mortality has been much improved. From 30% to about 5% at the moment. The synchronized breeding to have kiddies drop in the warmer months has been huge help. Nutrition for the moms has also been a huge help as milk supply is plentiful
With food comes makonzo and we all know what comes along with the critters…snakes. Snake sightings have increased on the farm due to all the silage bunkers around the farm that have food. Any ideas welcome for snake control that is mindful of ecosystem and ecological balance
