Hi all, I’m hoping to pick some brains…
I just visited a 2nd parity cow, 4 days post calving with a vaginal prolapse.
Replacing took almost 2 hours, even after a lidocaine epidural, and IM sedation (xylazine). I had cold water on her the whole time and lots of lube
THREAD 1/2
@thecowdoc I’ve heard a few people say they prefer buhner, but I must admit my confidence performing it would be lower as I’ve never seen it in person. (And I’m not sure I had a buhner needle in my car!) but I’ll look into it a bit more - thank you!!
She had NSAIDs and antibiotics (she had only partially cleansed + was very dirty). I sutured her in with halstead technique. She was pushing the whole time + I can’t help feeling I was doing something wrong.
I’d love to know what peoples procedures are for vaginal prolapses? 2/2
Sometimes in mixed vet work I feel like I’m falling behind my farm only peers, but today has really helped my confidence
I did my first solo farm surgery, and my first ever full c-section!
She was up and drinking right away, and was very calm beneath my slightly shaky hands 😅
Merry Christmas Eve on call…second call out of the weekend to a lovely new client of ours (shame about the circumstances).
Here’s to the festive season stopping nothing! 🎄🐄
Hello all,
I’m putting together a farmer facing talk on pneumonia - does anyone know of any grants available at the moment that could help with shed design / ventilation / management / etc?
I’m going a bit loopy trying to search for them!
Heading down to my first @theBCVA congress tomorrow!
Looking forward to the calf pneumonia and #WeanClean talks in prep for my first farmer meeting on tackling beef pneumonia in November!
Sheep people! Can anyone wiser than me able to explain the best way to strip graze 4 fields (with various parasite burdens) for the coming year? Or point me to a resource?
None of the fields have been rested, + we’re fairly certain the housing is burdened too!
Thanks in advance!
First day at work (in 30•c heat!) means getting an ice cream on the way back from a clear TB test
Almost makes up for having to wear waterproofs in this weather!
Officially Dr Jessica Oxborrow, BVM BVS, BvMedsci, MRCVS
Very grateful for all the friends and family that have helped me through the past 5 years - and of course all the staff at Nottingham Vet School.
Here’s to the future 🎓🥂
