57 years ago today my dad died. Pleased when this tribute appeared in the Guardian, even more pleased when I was asked if the poem version could be included in this book to raise money for YANA Charity. Dad would have approved. Still miss you dad.
@MartinSLewis I’m intrigued by government spokesman saying that their capping electricity prices has kept inflation figure lower than it otherwise would have been. It only came in in October this is an inflation figure for September.
Good grief the Tory party really is out of touch with ordinary people when an Mp refers to travelling around the country in a charabanc to meet the voting membership.
In one of the richest countries in the world there are now 180 food groups helping people in Cornwall and 42 warm banks - places where people can go to stay warm. What a shameful fact. It is well over twice the number of monetary banks in the county. Shameful

At 5-45 the fire has been lit. Kathy’s words, “We are not going to be cold and the wilderness birds will be fed and two fingers to Liz Truss.” And that from my lovely wife is telling her.
@MargretGeraghty Yes, I was also with my father when he had a massive stroke and died with a glass of Christmas good cheer still in his hand when I was 16, and with my mother, who I was told by the nurse in her care home “She won’t die until you get her.” She waited for me.
It would have been my mother’s birthday today.I was lucky to be holding her cooling hand when she died 2days after her 80th birthday. With her last breath she gave me the finest gift she could give me. A popular poem with audiences when I did evening readings
What a head line and article to read in a rich country. Sadly there are going to be a lot of people die through the cold rooms causing strokes and other illnesses.
Fellow tweeters have responded well to the poem I put up about my mother’s final gift to me, so I’m putting the poem I wrote about my mother’s last few days, her 80th birthday and her ‘final journey.’
