@Clint_Davey1 Don’t forgwt obscuring each others objective. I’ve often found that translates to military training. Blue objective: seize hill 123; red objective: delay blue from reaching hill 123 until x time. The time component, especially if unknown to blue, changes this completely.
@Clint_Davey1 Worth highlighting that in the game armies and fleets can occupy the same space without combat occurring. So Hapsburg armies in ‘France’ can absolutely mean the Low Countries. French armies in ‘Italy’ can mean Naples. The game focuses on larger scale domination than regions.
@Clint_Davey1 Had fun knocking out 10 turns. Lots of work to do but it feels like 'Historical Root' with the asymmetric choices that don't require a deep knowledge of the period to play.
@Clint_Davey1 I was also wondering if peasants. Like score for sheer numbers at the end of the game. Got to tie that to them gaining numbers or resources to gain numbers each time another faction uses them though…
@RooksAndKingz I’m so sorry to hear this Kevin. Dogs truly are man’s best friend. Whilst this is a hard decision to make take comfort in knowing Merlin is no longer suffering. You will always have the happy memories of your time together. Stay strong brother
@CharlesVasey@Clint_Davey1@thisThadius It is important to note that the line is not the literal route the troops follow. The army can move East into the Welsh Marches and then North (much like the modern day Arriva Trains Wales)
I recently ran another playtest One Hour English Civil War - a game that I am designing with @Clint_Davey1 based on the success of his designs for WW1, WW2 and Napoleonic Grand Strategy. Here is what happened in abridged format...
@CharlesVasey In the game Plymouth had no army present and Parliament had used all
Its action chits so couldn’t use the ‘trined bands’ response - if they had then a L1 army would be placed there and they would have gained the fortification advantage
Anyway that's it for now . It would be great for this game to be used in the British school curriculum and perhaps adopted by the English Civil War Society...
5) Historical Flavour - the event chits provide the historical detail of the real First English Civil War without restricting player choices with a set chronology. Yes you can't get the New Model Army before 1644 but otherwise it's pretty flexible and encourages players to think.
