That was the harder question at the 'Women in Food Systems: Cultivating Equality, Harvesting Growth' plenary at #AFSForum2026 today. The discussion confronted the structural barriers that continue to limit what women can contribute to the sector.

Unequal access to finance.
Harmful gender norms.
Unpaid care work.
Exclusion from decisions that shape food systems and more.

The message from Kigali was that equality shouldn't remain an aspiration. That is the only way we will move from participation to power, and from potential to growth.
