Election night is only one week away!
Over the coming days, we’ll be posting vote compasses for each ward, so that you can stay informed on which candidates support our 10-point plan!
Beginning with Ward 10 - Spadina-Fort York:
@georgebell More pedestrian islands could be constructed at additional intersections in the long term.
Some intersections already have space reserved for them, such as Finch & John Garland/Silverstone.
To add:
We continue to advocate for green extensions to be activated and their timing optimized to reflect LRT movement.
In the short term there could also be adjustments to timing and phasing at the intersections that do have pedestrian refuge islands, to reduce red durations for the LRT while still providing enough time for pedestrians to cross the entire street.
@eastofmidnight3@georgebell@RM_Transit@Ramsey_Kilani The Toronto streetcar system has a ridership of over 200 thousand riders per weekday. Buses would struggle to keep up with that demand, and be costlier to run.
The streetcar system has a lot of potential…it just needs to be prioritized and modernized.
This is something that can be implemented relatively quickly and on a budget. That’s why it’s the first point in our plan, and that’s why it must be a core element of how Toronto improves and expands its streetcar network over the months and years ahead.
