It is not simply that “people” and I assume audiences, have mistaken jazz for a moral art form. Jazz musicians themselves have long claimed that moral terrain. They teach the music as humility, discipline, freedom, spirituality, healing and even collective responsibility.
My dad didn't eat for one straight week after my sister passed. He only drank water. He preferred to sit alone in the dark. He didn't talk much. It's almost 20 years now, he was never the same man.
I unreservedly apologise to Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng (@fabacademic) for the malicious remarks I made in a series of posts on the X platform on the 9th of October 2024. Upon reflection, I now realise that the claims I made about Prof Phakeng were deeply harmful.
