About a decade ago, GoofBoy first went to Camp Ramah Palmer. The very first thing he told us about when he got home was making friends with special needs campers. Now, years later, he is spending his summer as a counselor with these campers. I am so proud of him.
In carpool GoofGirl and I argue about promos we hear for Elephant Insurance. I think it's insurance for elephants, she thinks it's insurance by elephants. But really, we could both be right.
Somehow, as a teenager, GoofGirl has gotten back into the kids musician she loved a decade ago, Laurie Berkner (which is great, because I never stopped being a fan!) https://t.co/70ui3AVW6T https://t.co/70ui3AVW6T
On posting about GoofBoy's graduation a friend couldn't believe it. In her mind he was frozen at 8 years old. I replied he's still the same super-sweet kid. In some really great ways, he hasn't grown up.
It's late enough that I could stay up a little later and pounce on GoofBoy when he comes home from prom. By pounce, I mean literally, hide behind furniture and jump on him.
It's prom, why are GoofBoy and his friends on Instagram? Why is GoofBoy responding to my texts? Really, shouldn't they be doing something raucous now? Or was I mislead by the teen comedies of my youth?
Since we're talking prom memories. I didn't go to mine. I went with a friend to Garvin's and did a comedy set at the Open Mike Night. That was my priority at 17.
GoofBoy: Dad, University Z accepted me... Dad, what are you doing?
Me: Ordering their gear.
GoofBoy: I don't know if I'm going, I applied to 8 schools.
Me: It's about loyalty dammit!
GoofBoy: University X differed me, but my friend got in.
Me: What, they took your knucklehead friend and not you? They are dead to me! I curse you University X!
GoofBoy: Dad, take it easy.... https://t.co/A1uUXRCarB
Haven't posted for a while, but Father Goof is back and during college application season quite thankful... for Ultimate Frisbee? https://t.co/asQ5ArnUW3 https://t.co/asQ5ArnUW3
Great news! GoofBoy has selected his college choices. There are nine. The other 85,000 higher education institutes in America can stop contacting us now. Please.
I know I should have bittersweet poignant thoughts as the not so little Goofs head in for the #firstdayofschool - GoofBoy is now a Senior and GoofGirl is a Freshman. Sunrise/sunset and all that. But really it just means a return to #carpool
