I’m someone who almost never responds to hate comments under my posts. Most of the time, I simply ignore them. But today I responded, because when it comes to body shaming, that’s a line I have a hard time staying silent about.

Making another human being feel like shit because they don’t meet your standards is cruel. You have no idea what someone has already been through, what they see when they look in the mirror, or how deeply your words can affect them.

This is personal for me because I dealt with body shaming for most of my life. I was teased, called names, bullied, and made to believe that if I could just change the way I looked, maybe people would finally stop. Eventually, I lost over 70 pounds. And yes, I’m incredibly proud of myself for doing it for my health.

But looking back, there’s something that makes me sad. I wasn’t just changing my body for my health—I felt like I had to change because the constant body shaming was hurting me mentally. I was made to feel like there was something wrong with me simply because I didn’t fit someone else’s idea of what a woman should look like.

So when I see someone casually tearing apart another woman’s body, I’m going to speak up. You never know what someone is carrying behind the body you’re so quick to criticize.

Maybe before judging someone else’s appearance, remember there’s a human being on the other side of your comment. And she deserves a little more kindness than you think she does.

Adote Um Gatinho nasce nel 2003 e si occupa di salvare gatti abbandonati nella zona di San Paolo, trovando loro famiglie responsabili e sensibilizzando sull’importanza della sterilizzazione e dell’adozione consapevole. Oggi la ONG si prende cura di circa 400 gattini, ospitati nella sede e nelle case dei volontari
