After the breathtaking results of an early mRNA pancreatic cancer vaccine trial, Dr Makary tells @kaitlancollins that NIH canceled $500 million in support for 20 mRNA vaccine trials simply because private industry should pay for it. In reality, RFK Jr killed the funding because he doesn’t believe in the technology. He said, “After reviewing the science and consulting top experts at NIH and FDA, HHS has determined that mRNA technology poses more risk than benefits for these respiratory viruses.”
US immigration officials picked up a blind Rohingya refugee last week in Buffalo, NY. Then, realizing they had no basis to deport him, they released him five miles from his home. He needed a walking stick and died trying to make his way back to his house: https://t.co/dNBRWAiv0b
Sen. Kaine: “Do you believe that there’s no evidence that the flu vaccine has efficacy in reducing serious injury and hospitalization?”
Means: *pauses*
Sen. Kaine: “This is an easy one, doctor.”
HHS cancels $500 million in mRNA research, a $600 million contract to develop an mRNA bird flu vaccine, narrowed criteria on who should get the mRNA COVID vaccine, and now refuses to review a completed study of a mRNA flu vaccine. If you were trying to kill a technology, and a company, this is what you would do. Someone at HHS seems to have a thing about the President’s truly lifesaving mRNA vaccines.

NEW: The F.D.A. refused to accept an application from Moderna for its mRNA flu vaccine.
Its reason: The agency did not think Moderna compared the new vaccine to one of the best flu shots available. The company spent $750M+ on a 41,000 person study.

People age 70+ should not be taking aspirin at any dose for prevention. Results of randomized trials show higher risk of all-cause mortality, major bleeding events and deaths from cancer. p 153, SUPER AGERS book
Heartbreaking piece from @propublica about how Trump's dismantling of USAID is leading to the slow starvation of refugees: https://t.co/hjiodYpFwG It's hard to fathom the cruelty of officials who would abruptly pull food from families in refugee camps, leaving them nothing.
Multiple large natural experiments have documented Shingles vaccine is linked with ~20-25% reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. A new report today adds to that and extends the to slowing the progression of dementia @CellCellPress

We are witnessing a poisonous effort to destroy what the vast majority of Americans know is a key pillar of public health.
Vaccines are responsible for 40% of the reduction in child mortality achieved in the last half century.
