Sahara Reporters 's string of dishonest reporting and malicious misrepresentation of facts against the Abia State Government and the Alex Otti administration continues with a poorly-veiled attempt at undermining the bold security initiatives that have been adopted to protect and insulate communities around the State from attacks by criminal elements from within and without.
Sahara Reporters' disingenuous attempt at using an unfortunate security development in a part of the State, to which the Abia State Government is responding effectively to, for clickbait, highlights their penchant for sensationalism and scaremongering.
What is even more ridiculous in the unfortunate report from Sahara Reporters is that they took a response to a question from the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during the post-State Executive Council meeting press briefing on Monday out of context and skewed it to suit a badly-written news story.
The Commissioner had rightly and honestly acknowledged that there has been an unfortunate security development in Umunneochi LGA, without disclosing much since the security agencies are investigating the incident with a view to identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
At any rate, it is important to add that until the facts are established by the relevant security agencies, the Government will not be drawn into idle speculations or guesswork.
What is however certain is that justice will be served eventually on anyone and everyone connected to the ugly development.
It is unfortunate that rather than report the news accurately, Sahara Reporters mischievously elected to rely on unrelated developments in other states to buttress their wild claims in a manner that points to a very nasty media agenda against the Government and people of Abia State.
While the Government respects the rights of media practitioners to report events in ways that educate and inform their audiences, it is also important to note that it is a terrible disservice to the public when news reports are written with very scant attention to material facts and true witness accounts as Sahara Reporters just did.
The general public is therefore advised to strongly disregard skewed and sensational reports from biased platforms like Sahara Reporters and be rest assured that the Abia State Government is doing everything in its power to protect the lives and property of everyone living or doing business here.
Governor Otti, as millions of Abians can attest to,
has shown very strong will in responding to every security development in the State since he assumed office. The incidents that occurred over the last few days in some parts of the State are being investigated and everyone or group remotely connected to the breach would be fished out and dealt with, in accordance with the full provisions of our laws, and that can be taken for granted.
All law abiding residents in the State are encouraged to go about their legitimate businesses without fear or anxiety as the Government remains firmly committed to its constitutional responsibilities of guaranteeing the safety of everyone functioning here.
Media practitioners are also encouraged to be professional in their reporting, seek clarity when in doubt and not mislead the public with dishonest account of events.
