The new Omenuko Bridge linking Umuahia, Bende, Arochukwu, and Ohafia is seriously taking shape.

Upon completion, the challenges of heavy-duty vehicles not being able to reach Abam via this route will become a thing of the past.

On April 19th, The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, played host to the Foreign Minister of Senegal, Mrs. Yassine Fall at Abiriba in Ohafia LGA during the traditional marriage ceremony of her son Samori Sombel SY with Mary Aluba Okafor.

Yesterday, we had the honour of commissioning Sections 1 and 2 of the reconstructed 46.3KM Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road by His Excellency, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR. The transformative project underscores our commitment to rebuilding critical infrastructure, improving connectivity, and unlocking the economic potential of Abia State. With the reconstruction, travel time and man-hours are now significantly reduced, and safety is enhanced for thousands of commuters and businesses along this vital corridor.

The newly commissioned road represents a lifeline for farmers and businesses. By guaranteeing speedy and safe transportation of agro-produce to urban markets, we are empowering farmers economically, cutting food costs for families, and providing the younger generation with attractive opportunities in agriculture.

As a government, we remain resolute in our development-centred agenda, channelling public resources prudently and meeting all financial obligations without borrowing. The road, being completed with taxpayers' money, is a testament to the power of collective effort and trust in governance. Taxation remains a cornerstone of our shared prosperity. It is through regular and responsible tax payments that we can continue to finance meaningful projects like this and uplift every corner of Abia State. I encourage all taxpaying citizens and businesses to recommit themselves to this civic duty, confident that every naira paid is effectively utilized to transform our communities.

To honour the legacy of Prof. Joe Irukwu, fondly remembered as 'Mr. Insurance,' we have named this stretch of road the 'Joe Irukwu Way.' This gesture celebrates his extraordinary contributions to our society and ensures that his memory remains etched in the hearts of generations to come.

Once again, we appreciate His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, for his steadfast support and presence in Abia State. His dedication to humanitarian causes and the development of our state has been exemplary, reflecting his love for Abia and his belief in our shared vision for progress. Thank you, Your Excellency, for inspiring us to keep striving for excellence.
