Ex: “I need you to pretend we never dated.”
Me: “Excuse me?”
Ex: “Please. I’m serious.”
Me: “You called me after three years just to say that?”
Ex: “I’m getting married tomorrow.”
I stared at the message.
Me: “Congratulations.”
Ex: “She knows about you.”
Me: “And?”
Ex: “She thinks you’re still in love with me.”
I laughed.
Me: “I’m not.”
Ex: “I know that. She doesn’t.”
Me: “Then that’s your problem.”
Ex: “Please don’t come if you get an invitation.”
Me: “Why would I be invited?”
He didn’t answer.
The next morning, I received one.
His wedding invitation.
My name was handwritten across the envelope.
Inside was another note.
“Please come. I need you to hear something before I marry him.”
I knew immediately.
That wasn’t from my ex.
It was from his fiancée.
