I was scrolling through TikTok yesterday and came across a video of a girl sharing her story.

She worked a regular nine-to-five and earned about one million naira every single month.

She was careful with money and saved consistently.

You know when you are young, have fewer responsibilities, earn well, and also have sense, saving feels like the obvious thing to do.

One day, she got to work and was fired.

In her mind, she thought, “I’ve been saving, so I should be able to manage for a few months.” She went home, stayed calm, and believed she would get another job within three months at most.

Three months passed. Then six months. Then it was almost a year.

Her savings finished.

That was when reality hit her hard. She talked about how difficult things became and how traumatized she felt.

Guys, relying on one source of income is risky. If you have a nine-to-five, try to build a side hustle.

Even if that side hustle brings in an extra ₦200k to ₦500k a month, it can make a huge difference when life happens.

Think about it this way. If your income stops in the next six months or one year, how will you survive?

At this point, it does not matter if you are a freelancer, a nine-to-fiver, or anything else. Everyone needs a backup.

I started my own side hustle earlier this year, and it is growing slowly alongside my freelance business.

And if you are a freelancer, you already know that working with just one client is bad business. Always keep your pipeline open.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
