On Christmas Day 1937, a football match between Chelsea and Charlton Athletic was abandoned at Stamford Bridge due to the worst London fog since 1904.

Everyone left the pitch.

Everyone except Charlton goalkeeper Sam Bartram.

For the next 15 minutes, he stood alone in the thick fog, arms outstretched, guarding an empty goal — convinced his teammates were dominating at the other end and that no attack was coming his way.

It was only when a police officer emerged from the curtain of fog and stared at him in disbelief that he finally learned the truth.
"What on earth are you doing here?" the officer gasped. "The game was stopped a quarter of an hour ago."

When Bartram finally made it to the dressing room, his teammates — already bathed and back in their street clothes — were in fits of laughter.

He went on to make 623 appearances for Charlton Athletic, becoming the club's greatest ever goalkeeper. A statue of him now stands outside their stadium.

The fog took the game. It never took his focus.

د. عبدالعزيز السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته ومبارك عليك ما تبقى من الشهر

جوهر خطابك يقوم على نقل النقاش من مساءلة التنظيم إلى معركة على الدين والوطنية والأخلاق وهنا أصل الخلل.

أولًا: لا تخلط الإسلام بالتيار.
قولك "أنا جزء من التيار الإسلامي" ليس حجة بل إشكال بحد ذاته.فالإسلام ليس حزبا ولا جمعية ولا دائرة تنظيمية ولا يحق لأحد أن يوحي بأن من ليس مع تياره أقل تمثيلا للإسلام أو أبعد عنه.

ثانيًا: تقول إنكم ترفضون صكوك الوطنية
بينما خطابك نفسه يمنح جماعتك صكوك البراءة فكل نقد لكم يصبح تشكيكا وكل مساءلة تتحول ظلما أو اصطفافا ضد الوحدة. وهذه ليست مقاومة لاحتكار الوطنية بل إعادة إنتاج لها بصيغة أخرى.

ثالثًا: حديثك عن شرف الخصومة
لا يستقيم مع تاريخ معروف من التصنيف والتشويه والطعن في المخالفين.فمن مارس الإقصاء طويلا لا يليق به أن يتحدث اليوم وكأنه المرجع الأخلاقي في أدب الخلاف.

رابعًا: الإيحاء بأنكم مجرد حالة محلية منفصلة عن امتداد أوسع لا يصمد أمام التاريخ.
فالجماعة معروفة بجذورها الفكرية والتنظيمية العابرة للحدود، ولا يستقيم التنصل من هذا الامتداد حين يحرجكم ثم استدعاؤه حين يخدم صورتكم.

خامسًا: محاولتك تقديم جماعتكم اليوم بوصفها فقط صوت الوحدة والاتزان تتجاهل أن هذا التيار كان جزءًا من الاستقطاب والتعبئة حين وافق هواه السياسي ثم صار يعظ الناس بالهدوء حين تغيرت المصلحة.

سادسًا: لا يجوز الاحتماء بالقضايا الكبرى لتخفيف مساءلة التنظيم.
فالقضية العادلة لا تمنح أي جماعة حصانة من النقد ولا تصلح ستارا لتبرئة التناقضات الداخلية.

الخلاصة:
المشكلة في خطابك ليست الدعوة إلى الوحدة بل في جعل الوحدة مظلة لحماية الجماعة من النقد وجعل الاعتراض على التنظيم اعتراضا على الإسلام والمساءلة السياسية طعنا في الوطنية وكشف التناقضات فجورا في الخصومة.

الإسلام أوسع من تياركم،
والكويت أكبر من جماعتكم،
والوطنية لا توزعها جمعية،
والأخلاق لا يحتكرها تنظيم.

ومن أعجزِ الناس من عاب الناس بما فيهم، وأعجزُ منه من عابهم بما فيه.

Who could have expected Mark Carney, a liberal establishment figure if there ever was one, to be the flag-bearer for the end of the US-led order? And from a podium at Davos, of all places?

The more you think about it, though, the more it makes sense.

Carney is, at heart, a central banker. As such he understands the power of words and beliefs better than anyone: when you strip things down to their core, a world order - like trust in a currency or a financial system - fundamentally relies on the maintenance of belief. Systems of power exist because participants act as if they exist. That's pretty much it: perception is reality.

Once participants acknowledge the fiction as Carney just did (he literally started his speech announcing he'd "end the pleasant fiction" of the US-led order), the system itself unravels. This is incidentally a formal concept in game theory: the shift from private knowledge to common knowledge is what triggers cascades.

Carney, with his background, ought to have known this was his most potent weapon facing Trump's America: "Trump has the economic and military might. But I have something his power rests upon: I can shatter the collective belief that sustains it."

He's even explicit about this being his thinking: his entire speech revolves around Vaclav Havel’s famous shopkeeper analogy and the fact that the power of the Soviet Union rested on "everyone’s willingness to perform as if it were true," on "living within a lie."

As Carney puts it, "when even one person stops performing, the illusion begins to crack" and the entire "system’s power" starts to crumble.

Today, that "one person" was him.

Make no mistake, Carney’s speech at Davos may prove to be one of THE most important speeches made by any global leader over the past 30 years. This is genuinely epochal stuff.

More than anything, what it means is that, to the extent it even existed at all, the West irremediably lost the Second Cold War: a Cold War requires two competing systems. Carney just announced that one of them simply no longer exists.
