Jeremy Doku has revealed that he intends to leave the US and temporarily step away from Belgium’s World Cup squad to be present at the birth of his first child. 🩵
The baby is expected to arrive during the second week of July, potentially coinciding with the latter stages of the tournament should Belgium still be involved.
The decision has sparked criticism, but Doku has every right to make that choice. Missing the birth of your first child shouldn’t even be up for debate.
🗣️ Doku: “It depends on when it happens, but it’s my first child, so I would definitely want to be there.”
🗣️ “If you ask me what I want, my answer is that nobody wants to miss the birth of their first child. But I also know that football involves many other considerations.”
🗣️ “I know the federation supports its players and understands their situations. We’ll see what we can do.”
Belgian media reported that a private plane to England, where his wife Shireen is expected to give birth, would likely be arranged.
