One of my old writing professors once told me "To police imagination is to build a cage for the mind." And I think that goes especially double for people who write about things that society considers 'bad'. Expression and a persons morality aren't always synonymous.
The conflict of moral purity in writing and fictional subjects comes up on a near monthly basis and it's usually people who don't really have the life experience clutching their pearls trying to police others for how they deal with their own expression and i'm just tired of it
I think that the righteous indignation that people have over creators who produce taboo subjects but are in fact perfectly fine and well adjusted individuals in their daily life is performative and juvenile and could be redirected towards actual injustices instead of fanfiction
Idk man but as a rape survivor who actually had to get an abortion over it and was sent death threats for 7 months after I came out against my aggressor I think that exploring taboo subjects like noncon and dubcon in fictional literature is fine and truly not that big a deal
i hope the fans who are so afraid of leaving kudos or comments understand that when authors receive paragraphs for comments after a chapter update we want to kiss you sloppy style
