@andrewsp2009 Great work as usual, Andrew. I’ve been slowly working on a reconstruction of Threave during the siege by James II in the 15th Century. Amazing place, well worth a visit. #Threave#Galloway#Scotland
On Xmas day 1400 'The Grim' died at Threave Castle. Archibald the Grim, 3rd Earl of Douglas, Son of the Black Douglas. He escaped English captivity at Poitiers by pretending he was a Cooks boy in his Master's armour. He then earned the name 'The Grim' when he returned to Scotland
Sad news that Ian Hamilton QC has passed away - described in Westminster as one of the "Vulgar Vandals" who *stole the Stone of Scone to Scotland after being stolen by Edward I more than 650 years before.
*by 'stole' we obviously mean 'returned'

⚪️OUR VISION⚪️
We are Caithness Broch Project, and we want to do something that hasn’t been attempted in 2,000 years:
We want to build a broch!
Today, we are able to share our vision with you. This is our goal, our ambition, our dream.
Huge thanks to @Rob_Marshall!

A very rough start on the reconstruction of the fort on Dunguile Hill for #HillfortWednesdays - situated just south of Castle Douglas in Dumfries & Galloway. Screel Hill in the background.
The fort on the summit of Dunguile Hill, just south of Castle Douglas in Dumfries & Galloway, is quite large! Several other smaller forts can be seen in the surrounding area for scale. #hillfortswednesday I've outlined what looks suspiciously like another outer wall.

Another wee shot of our reconstruction of the galleried dun at Castle Haven in Dumfries & Galloway. A fascinating site and well worth a visit for all those interested in #hillfortswednesday
We haven't posted in a while but here is another shot of Castle Haven - sometimes referred to as 'the Borg' is a mysterious wee galleried dun in south west Scotland. Not exactly on a hill but I'm sure #hillfortswednesday can appreciate!

Edinburgh Castle has been the site of many a hillfort. Here are a couple of pictures of a longer term in development reconstruction of Edinburgh around 1580 AD. #HillfortsWednesday#Edinburgh#Castle#EdinburghCastle
One last look at Ardstinchar Castle for #HillfortWednesday! When you find yourself driving through Ballantrae, stop and check out what the castle looked like from the roadside by selecting a point on the map and using your phone to look around! Link here:

For #HillfortsWednesday here's one from our reconstruction of Ardstinchar Castle in South Ayrshire, built around 1450. The main tower was added to in height at a later date but you can still make out the original tower on what remains of the structure in Ballantrae.
A little throwback to when we first started dabbling in historic reconstructions, here are some images from our first test project. The royal fort of the Gaels of Western Scotland - Dunadd in Argyll. #HillfortsWednesday#Scotland
We'll look to update this one day!
@andrewsp2009 While we're all in the no mans land between last #HillfortsWednesday and the next one, here are some more pictures from our reconstruction of Ardstinchar Castle in South Ayrshire.

The amphitheatre at #Trimontium in the #ScottishBorders, caught on a cold winter day. This amphitheatre was possibly the most northerly in the #Roman Empire (there may be one at Inveresk) - it could seat up to 2,000 people, which also makes it one of the smallest in the Empire.
