Anyone who describes Jan. 6 as "ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse" has given up on constitutional government. It's terrifying that the RNC, one of our two major parties, has taken that stance.
To challenge teaching racism in schools and to doubt systemic racism on the one hand while attacking the President for nominating Black women to positions of responsibility on the other demonstrates either open bigotry or an inconceivable inability to look in the mirror
@POTUS Right now, I'd rather we focus on the metaphorical cancer that's eating away at our democracy. We need a moonshot to address the root causes: ignorance, hate, disinformation, greed. If we save the country, we save the tools we need to address cancer and our other ills.
My father gave me an imperfect world, but we had a strong democracy & seemed to be making progress on the environment, increasing racial and economic equity, and reducing antisemitism. What am I giving my sons?
Love and recognition of our common humanity is essential to the reduction of hatred on the basis of race and religion, but the purveyors of hate, fear and ignorance are experts at spreading the language of demonization and dehumanization. We see the results everyday in the news.
Science is the path to knowledge and health, but the purveyors of ignorance and fear have demonized science and "elites" to insulate their followers from knowledge.
Education should be the cure to ignorance, but the purveyors of ignorance have weaponized their followers to cut school funding, remove books from school shelves, and to criminalize the teaching of true history while homeschooling their own children.
More speech is supposed to be the cure to "bad" speech, but those listening to one side won't hear the other. The purveyors of ignorance and hate have insulated themselves with the mantra of "fake news."
@RBReich@tribelaw@colbertlateshow@andersoncooper Thank you for your efforts to call out the dangerous direction we're headed. Yet, the slide back to pre-New Deal/pre-Civil Rights Act US and worse, '30s Europe, are terrifying. What can we each do to help put on the brakes?!
I've always used social only for business. This is a new account for me with no business connections as an outlet for personal political expression. I can't mix work and personal, but I can no longer allow my work concerns to keep me silent.
