And I did it for more than twenty years.

I smile.

Because to become that goalscorer, I had to become everything else first.

I had to learn.

I had to adapt.

I had to change my game.

I had to survive criticism.

I had to play through pain.

I had to prove people wrong again and again.

And I never stopped.

Maybe some people prefer Messi.

Maybe some prefer me.

That’s football.

But I don’t play football to win debates.

I play football to win.

And I don’t need another man’s opinion to tell me what my career means.

My numbers tell the story.

My trophies tell the story.

The people who watched me for more than twenty years know the story.

And most importantly…

I know my story.

I have never asked anybody to call me the greatest.

I have always believed it myself.

That’s the difference.
