Access to healthy, nutritious food improves physical and mental health for neighbors experiencing food insecurity. We recently convened staff from all five of our food banks for a two-day Food is Medicine convening to explore new and exciting emerging opportunities for Colorado!
Our ED Mandy Pullaro and GR Manager Ron Meehan alongside our five food bank CEOs recently attended the Feeding America Leadership Conference where they welcomed Feeding America’s new CEO Dennis McDonough and Chief Government Relations Officer Rebeckah Freeman Adcock!
It was an exciting day of sessions and round table discussions full of connection, learning, and building from our collective strengths. A great reminder of our shared values, commitment, and food banking spirit!
We hosted our annual Feeding Colorado State Conference last month in partnership with our five food banks- bringing together staff from across Colorado and Wyoming!
Last week, we joined our food bank teams in boxing 154 bags of more than 4,600 pounds of oranges while filming for our upcoming 9Cares Colorado Shares Campaign. Stay tuned for the launch of the campaign later this month to help us fight hunger!
AG Phil Weiser visited Care and Share Food Bank this month to discuss efforts to address hunger in Colorado Springs and across southern Colorado. We underscored the impact of the Community Food Assistance Provider Grant which allows our network to purchase local food.
Last November, AG Weiser directed $400,000 from a recent settlement to strengthen Colorado’s food security infrastructure. This funded 81 food pantries across the state for improvements in refrigeration, food storage, and volunteer support.
We recently joined @reppettersen and Mayor Buck Wenzel for a mobile market food distribution in Silver Cliff! We spoke about the impact of federal nutrition programs like The Emergency Food Assistance Program in rural communities including those in Custer County.
We also heard about the impact the Local Food Purchasing Agreement made to support agriculture and get fresh and local meats, dairy, and produce to neighbors throughout the region.
Their organization has grown and come a long way since their founding in 1972.
Serving 29 counties across 47,000 square miles, Care and Share covers a food service area larger than the state of Pennsylvania.
We attended Care & Share Food Bank’s annual Recipe for Hope Luncheon on St Patrick’s Day! It was a celebration of their incredible service to communities across Southern Colorado and a recognition of the many businesses, donors, and supporters who make the work possible.
