Finally managed to make it into the water for my swim! Though not the full length of the loch, I started from where I finished cycling yesterday and swam 3 miles to the other end of Loch Laggan.
Day 1 of the Feel Better Tour is in the books! Made it from Fort William to Loch Laggan. 30 miles covered of my 185-mile total. Today was about adapting to the ever-changing conditions of nature— which is a great lesson to transfer to mental health.
I can’t begin to explain how thankful I am for all of the support and donations so far. A huge shoutout to my support crew, Ellen, Peter and Viv in addition to my water safety support that came out today, Jessica, Amelia, and Al.
Hiked down to the loch to get ready for my swim only to find the water conditions unsafe with wind gusts of 60 MPH. After a small trial in the kayaks and a dynamic risk assessment, we decided it simply is not safe to go for an open water swim today.
Like with any outdoor activity, we have to adapt to conditions, so instead of swimming today,I’ll be cycling to our camping spot for the night. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better tomorrow and I’ll be able to swim the second half of the loch.

The first leg of cycling for the Feel Better Tour is officially complete! 24.8 miles of cycling from Fort William to Loch Laggan, uphill and into a strong headwind, done in 2 hours and 26 minutes. Now time to scarf down my lunch, have a quick midday break, and then get swimming!

In honour of two more days, I thought I would tell you more about the two charities I have been fundraising for: the Scottish Association for Mental Health and Mental Health Aberdeen.
@MHAberdeen has been helping provide accessible counselling services to the Aberdeen area for the last 70 years. This charity special to me as I have been able to access counselling through their services at a time when I couldn’t have afforded it.
