HUGE NEWS: ICE’s courthouse arrests have been STAYED by a New York district judge.
That means that ICE will have to stop arresting our immigrant neighbors on the spot when they show up to court at places like 26 Federal Plaza, 290 Broadway, and 201 Varick.
This is a massive win for our communities in the fight against ICE. I’m proud to have worked alongside the incredible organizations like @Door_NYC who filed this case.
I am heartbroken to share that another one of our students was detained by ICE, while attending his immigration hearing.
Our Project Open Arms team is standing with the student’s family, working closely to connect them with legal support and other critical services.
Yesterday's mayoral debate reference to old tweets and defunding reminded me of this one from September 2020 when parents & students had to march masked on the streets because Gov Cuomo DEFUNDED NY SCHOOLS thread #DoNotRankCuomo
🏫The NYC public school system is a marvel, serving nearly a million students and employing 130,000 teachers and staff. 🏫
But Andrew Cuomo fought time and again as governor to lower funding to NYC public schools.
As mayor, he can’t be trusted to put students first 👇
At #uftspring ed conference mayoral forum, @ZohranKMamdani says mayor should not have full control of the PEP. “We need a school system where decisions are not made on high, but include parents and educators,” he says.
Van Hollen says that he asked the VP why El Salvador continues to hold Abrego Garcia even though he’s not charged with a crime and there’s no evidence that he’s MS-13.
“His answer was that the Trump administration is paying the government of El Salvador to keep him at CECOT”
Bone chilling.
A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States.
The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0.
1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.
AOC: I was watching earlier today on TV, someone was saying, “Why are AOC and Bernie going to Idaho?”
I’ll give you one simple answer: It’s because you matter
The Administration is blatantly defying the Supreme Court and the Rule of Law by refusing to bring home Kilmar Abrego García AND suggesting that American citizens should be deported to prisons in El Salvador.
This is not what Democracy looks like.
Millions of students heading to college this fall depend on federal financial aid to pay for their degree. These are students studying to be nurses, teachers, business owners, and more.
Our communities need their skills, and President Trump is making it even harder for them to pay for college.
