Richard Falk, 95, the former UN special rapporteur who spent years documenting Israeli abuses in the occupied territories, says he and his wife, legal scholar Hilal Elver, were detained and questioned for more than four hours at Toronto Pearson airport on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported.
A security officer told them, “We’ve detained you both because we’re concerned that you pose a national security threat to Canada,” Falk said. He adds that they were asked about their work on Israel, Gaza and genocide, calling the questioning part of a global push to “punish those who endeavour to tell the truth” about Israel’s war on Gaza.

"We demand UC President Milliken restore and protect the PPFP Faculty Hiring Incentive. Targeting PPFP is an assault on the values of the UC and a pre-emptive concession to the federal attack on our institution and higher education more broadly." https://t.co/wkuw4ejpqB
"The proposed changes to faculty discipline…offer a normalization of the increasingly extreme policing of thought and expression that we have witnessed at UC over the past few years." https://t.co/RLBR2RWxnt
