Owning a home in your later years has gotten harder, because the market between wages and spending is so unbalanced, that there's now all these old folks wondering if it's because we buy too much Starbucks are so out of the loop, assuming things are the way they've always been
I don't know who needs to hear this, but pretty much every noted 'American tradition' is less than 100 years old. And that includes a nuclear family whose kids move out at 18. That one only lasted for about 30-40 years, until your politicians allowed wage stagnation to take place
So now you have adult millenials who feel guilty for not owning a home at 30 years old, even though this was mostly possible for two entire generations. It was pretty normal 70+ years ago for many people to stay with their parents until they got married.
Fun capitalism fact: If you have the word "Villa" or "Manor" in your apartment complex name, you're legally allowed to increase the rent of your shithole property by $500.
Like... if they really were protesting against the treatment of Uyghurs, that would be a different story. But people suffering isn't anything they actually care about.
The protests in Hong Kong are literally just rich capitalist kids complaining about the plan for their taxes to go toward helping poor people, and the CIA is being extremely opportunistic about it. Singing the American national anthem and waving American flags? Pretty sus, tbh.
@chris_stearns All the praise for "American democracy" is really just an attempt to maintain the capitalist compromise Hong Kong had been running under for a while now. Since when is American-style democracy fair, when our votes can be easily discarded by EC and using Gerrymandering?
@Klezmerstyle These protests have nothing to do with any of that. I'm not about to say China does nothing wrong, but come on, these protests are clearly pro-capitalism.
Especially since Hong Kong's message is so ambiguously represented in the media, that Americans literally believe they're protesting for free speech rights or whatever. Like how Americans believed Venezuela was crippled by socialism, rather than American imperialism.
It's super easy for Americans to sympathize with protesters from another country if they've been fed propaganda all their lives that these countries are mean and oppressive and America is free and just (disregarding nuances of course).
@perlmutations Seeing people defend David Koch after this tweet is like walking into a different world where people don't remember that this man spent billions of dollars suppressing the fight against climate change, but then you see the climate change denial cult and it's just sad.
