I agree with the Liberian Army Chief that the ECOWAS needs to urgently whittle-down & limit the powers of military presidential guards.

American President is guarded by the Secret Service not Marines. The British Prime Minister is guarded by a Special Unit in the Metropolitan Police. The French Gendarmerie were carved out from the French National Police, they guard the President of France. Why are we still having a well armed military formation like Brigade of Guards guarding the Presidential Villa? Why are we still deploying a senior military officer, mostly a colonel, standing behind the President like a mannequin?

To halt these incessant military coups in West Africa, we need to first demilitarise our democracies by removing this needless military “siege” around most of our Presidents.
