It was an honor for us to join forces with @norwayinindia to discuss the important issue of under-representation of women in politics. Your insights helped us understand the enormous efforts Norway took to address this challenge. We are reinvigorated to do our best!
At @femmefirstf, we were amazed and inspired to learn that in 1920s, #LeelaRoy started the first organization in Indian history that trained women to be effective politicians. It was called #DeepaliSangh.
#TheFifteen
#LeelaRoy joined an #armed revolutionary group (all-men) and faced immense sexism. Yet she persevered and led the organization later. She trained women to make bombs, fire guns, and of course, politicking skills.
Read her inspiring story in #TheFifteen.
Only 15 women were present in the 299-member Constituent Assembly that framed India’s Constitution. The fifteen women leaders contributed immensely to shape modern India. They navigated extraordinary challenges and left lasting imprints. Theirs are stories of resistance and hope.
The contributions of women leaders in shaping modern India have been often invisibilized from our history. Our founder @AngellicAribam is the lead author of #TheFifteen: The Lives and Times of the Women in India’s #ConstituentAssembly. Do grab your copies!

A century ago, most colleges and universities didn’t allow admission of women. But the sheer determination of the women who wanted to study forced them to open their doors. Our founder @AngellicAribam shares their inspiring stories in today’s @IndianExpress.
In the historic election post the passage of the #WomensReservationBill, the number of women MPs elected to the Lok Sabha has fallen to 74. In the last Lok Sabha, there were 82 women MPs (78 initially; 4 elected later in the bypolls). This is why the law must be implemented ASAP.
A real example of how #reservation in the panchayats gives space to women from non-political families and builds overall women’s leadership:

In today’s @IndianExpress, our founder @AngellicAribam writes about the salient points of our #GenderManifesto: “The recommendations are crucial, far-sighted and, most importantly, attainable for the next government within its tenure.”
We, at FFF, are glad to see the @INCindia manifesto recognise the aspirations of LGBTQ+ people. The fundamental right to marry was amongst the major demands in our #GenderManifesto — published last week.
We hope this step will encourage other parties to support LGBTQ+ rights.
Congress Party manifesto: After wide consultation, Congress will bring a law to recognize civil unions between couples belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community, says Congress
After a two-month long consultation process with the public and experts, we are proud to present India’s first #GenderManifesto. It reflects the dreams and aspirations of today’s India.
We urge all political parties to adopt the #GenderManifesto2024 as a part of their agenda.
We are thrilled that Ms. Samyuktha Patil, our alumna from #GenderedLeadershipCourse 1st cohort, has secured the @incindia nomination for Bagalkot constituency. We wish her all the best in the upcoming parliamentary election. #womenleadership

This #republicday, we pay homage to the feminist movements in pre-independent India that played a crucial role in ensuring women’s rights were guaranteed in the #Constitution. Sadly, their role in forging the republic remains underappreciated. Our founder @AngellicAribam writes:

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices. However, this year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.
