Unconfirmed reports suggest that the cost of closing and decommissioning Waterbeach station could be as much as £ 5 million. Surely, money that could be better spent elsewhere! The petition to keep the station open can be found at: https://t.co/WNmF9BT9cH...
One of the key drivers of #CambridgeSouth is to support Cambridge's sustainable transport strategy. To that end, we've connected the new station to the local cycle network and providing 1000 bicycle spaces for a range of different bike shapes and sizes.

It's National Volunteers Week so a big thank you to all those who tend gardens, keep stations tidy and generally support our rail services, as station adopters or by working with Community Rail partnerships. Others give their time freely to campaign for a bigger better railway.
Thameslink, Southern, Great Northern and Gatwick Express have transferred into public ownership today to deliver more reliable, passenger-centred services across the network 👇 (1/3)
Just a reminder that for anybody travelling from the Fen Line to London on Sunday there are rail replacement buses on both the routes to King's Cross and Liverpool Street. Planners do try and avoid disruption on both lines on the same day if they can....
High temperatures affected overhead line equipment yesterday. Great Northern couldn't run services between King's Lynn and Cambridge but a few Greater Anglia services ran between Cambridge and Ely. Once again the fragility of our rail network during extreme weather was exposed.
When the station for Waterbeach New Town gets built (due to open 2028) there are plans to close the existing station. FLUA support retaining the existing station and there's an online petition to keep it open at: https://t.co/UODdNBrogy 2,281 people have signed this already....
The new issue of our newsletter is now out with articles on overcrowding at Cambridge in the late afternoon peak; increasing capacity at Ely; and options for two stations at Waterbeach. Members receive 3 copies annually. Visit our website for more info: https://t.co/IcutmMZLFo
The new timetable starts today. No major changes on Great Northern services but Greater Anglia will be running extra trains on the Stansted Airport - Cambridge - Ely - Norwich route. On weekdays there's a new 17.10 departure from Cambridge to Norwich to help with overcrowding.

Thank you to Network Rail for making FLUA members so welcome when we visited Cambridge Signal Box on Saturday. It was a fascinating insight into how the Fen Line is signalled between Cambridge and Ely for the safe passage of both trains and road users at level crossings too.
Today marks 8 years since the official opening of Cambridge North station. With many stations struggling to match pre-pandemic passenger numbers, Cambridge North has bucked the trend with the latest figures showing a 56% increase in usage compared with 2019.
Go To Town? I did yesterday for the Campaign for Better Transport event at King's Cross and in keeping with the spirit of the event took the bus to the station! Early buses don't always connect with the trains but travelling later meant I had time to get my ticket and a coffee.
Rachel Reeves at Waterbeach station on 9th June. Disappointingly she didn't travel one stop further to Ely and announce some good news on the long overdue work to increase capacity at this strategic bottleneck.
This upgrade would bring so many benefits including more freight moved from road to rail and another step towards an all day half-hourly service on the Fen Line.
🚨 It’s been 23 years since the case for upgrading Ely Junction was made - that's older than Facebook!
🚄 Two decades later - still no upgrade.
