Been thinking about the burrito question, and how there is a recurring pattern of rightists having mental breakdowns about stuff that is exagaratted or not even true.

I realized that one thing that is different from woke is that wokes would wear mental illness on their sleeve. They could just say "I have noise sensitivity and crushing anxiety" and get sympathy. They imagined slights against themselves too, but always in the context that they were fragile and mentally ill.

Online rightists are similarly mentally ill, but don't believe in therapy culture. They're constantly having these hot flashes because some store they went to closed down or a burrito was too expensive or they saw Indians at Costco.

But they're unable to just say "I'm mentally ill."

Instead, they exaggerate their problems all out of proportion so they can remain tough in their own minds and continue their freakout. "No, I'm not weak. It's that I'm suffering more than a medieval serf."

This is how you get this pathetic combination of performative masculinity and endless self-pity. Sean Davis and Matt Walsh types have built their public profile around catering to these people.

I've always thought that the campaign against "ultra-processed" foods was mindless. What the heck does that even mean: the more things you do to food, the less healthy it is? New RCTs and analyses confirm that the stigma is meaningless (it's calories, fiber, & other causes, not "ultraprocessing") and even harmful: it encourages RFKj's MAHA quackery.
