Today we celebrate the birthday of our own Sister Jeannine Kavanaugh, who came to our community from Lawrenceville, Illinois. Sister Jeannine earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education, and put them to wonderful use for many years as a junior high math teacher.

Happy birthday to Sister Mary Leah Baehl! From right down the road in Evansville, IN, Sister Mary Leah has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from St. Benedict College, and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Reading, from Indiana State University.
She has even taught abroad at an Irish elementary school! She’s also served on mission trips to Peru, spending over 30 years there in total, and she’s been an Infirmary Aide with the Sisters here in Ferdinand.
Commitment to monastic life is a process — one that can take up to nine years. Living in community is a pillar of life at Monastery Immaculate Conception, and one of the most important Benedictine principles.

Happiest of birthdays to Sister Teresa Elizabeth Stutz! She grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where the lows can dip below zero for half the year. In comparison, Ferdinand, Indiana must seem downright balmy!
Sister Teresa Elizabeth holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies, including liturgy and scripture. She’s served in many varied positions through the years, including Vocations here at the monastery and Family Scholar House.
The next of three things you can do today to encourage the young women around you to consider life as a Sister of St. Benedict? Be someone who supports the consideration of a religious vocation among the young women in your circle. Talk with them. Pray with them. Listen to them.
