On paper Jean-Clair Todibo ticks all the boxes to partner Lisandro Martinez.

— Rapid, consumes large amounts of ground quickly.
— Monster in the channels, falls in the Wan-Bissaka mould of tacklers, a wall.
— Athletic freak, antidote to Martinez’s biomechanical issues. Etc, etc, etc.

My problem lies in Todibo’s mental profile. Attacks the ball rather than controlling situations. Sub-optimal temperament for a central piece, too aggressive, vacants spaces regularly. Lacks the authority to marshal a back-line, little sense when to hold line or push the line up to squeeze the pitch. Not an organizer rather a follower.

Todibo suits the modern CB/RB hybrid role, wide CB in a three where his skill-set is appreciated. He is the Gabriel to Saliba, the Stones to Dias, the Konaté to van Dijk. The challenge instigator, not the safehouse in chaos.
