@AugustCohen4@mabele_farming There is no silver bullet to this issue.I believe that 1st some productivity gains need to be achieved (in our exemple we should be profitable even when spinach reach 300cdf), 2nd we should target production out of season and 3rd invest in storage capacity. So that is my 2 cents
@AugustCohen4@mabele_farming Solution to fetch a better price (despite the seasonality factor which we have to factor in) will be to deal directly with the end consumers but harvesting won't be sold in an hour and some relevant storage infrastructure required (additional costs) 2/n
@RjToyToy Also, in a lot of places the soil is not fertile. Less than 1% organic matter in the soil where we farm, versus 4% or more in most parts of Central Valley CA (my gold standard for 🍅 farms). We’ve incorporated ~20MT/Ha of manure into the land each year for 5 years… to get to 2%.
