I've seen two separate tweets about how William Jackson Harper would be a great Clark Kent/Superman, and how Giancarlo Esposito would be a great Lex Luthor.
Seeing them side-by-side, I absolutely agree. I'd love to watch a Superman movie with these two
(There WERE certainly books that did well during the pandemic, of course - there are always breakout hits - but my sense of it is that a lot of people were either too stressed to read or coalesced around their old favorites, putting a squeeze on new/midlisters. Could be wrong.)
(Not to trash @itsneonyang's very valid point, which is a fear that every author has to come to terms with. But you can fail for reasons that had nothing to do with you - I had a friend who published a very good book the week after the 2016 election.
(...it did not do well.)
