TV show idea: "House Hunters: 2022"
The entire season is the same couple looking for a house, every episode sees higher prices and ends with being outbid, season ends ambiguously
I'd watch
1 yr ago, a $500k house would cost ~$2100/mo (after 20%/$100k down)
Today, that same house, now worth over $600k, will cost over $3000/mo at today's rates (after $120k down)
A generation is being priced out of home ownership, but sure let's be mad at Biden about gas prices
Nice.
~Rising rates are having a counterintuitive effect on the market. Shoppers are actually sprung into action in an attempt to buy a home before rates rise any higher. Shoppers are nervous if they don’t buy today, they may never be able to~ https://t.co/ZRtlzsVCjt
After years of saving, months of being outbid, ever increasing prices, and now interest rate hikes, our prayers for a home officially feel like prayers for a miracle.
Increase in the last year
Gas: $1.32
Median home: $56,000
How come half the politicians are up in arms about one price hike but no one seems to care about the other?
1 in 7 homes is now owned by investors and their profits are also at record highs.
Month 3 of house hunting.
Feeling hopeless/discouraged.
Posts short prayer of hope on computer monitor.
Prayer promptly falls to ground.
Hopelessness = vindicated
It's adorable when people ask "oh what neighborhood do you want to live in?" as if this market has just a hotbed of affordable homes scattered throughout the area
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord"
..to immigrants, displaced in a foreign empire
Good reminder this morning at church (from a Korean-American pastor wearing a Mexican poncho nonetheless)
A brief story:
We can't afford houses, so we rent
⬇️
Since we all rent, rent surges with home prices
⬇️
As rent goes up, we save less & landlords gain wealth
⬇️
More wealth (& cheap loans) means more income properties
⬇️
More income properties means less homes on the market
⤴️
Earlier this week, someone publicly announced why they're leaving our church, largely citing changes made that distance our church from white-centeredness
Making room for others is the epitome of being the church. Thankful for this reminder and challenge from @CommonPrayer
