Historically, Bayes' work was posthumously published in 1763, after his death. Bayes’ theorem laid the groundwork for what is now known as Bayesian inference, a method of statistical inference in which Bayes' theorem is used to update the probability for a hypothesis as more evidence or information becomes available. Bayes' approach to probability was notably different from the frequentist approach, which dominated statistical methods at the time.
