And I’m not afraid to say I have come around to subscribe to it.
Unfortunately we don’t live in a society that rewards hard working people following traditional paths.

One of the the reasons the traditional precedent was set was due to scarcity.

Only those who risked gained the reward from it. We have effectively removed that society by introducing abundance.

Abundance has drastically discounted the price of cowardice.

An example would be that you need to risk going out to hunt and gather and now that precedent has been replaced by grocery stores. You used to need money for food from those stores and we gave citizens EBT. You used to need citizenship for EBT and now we give it to non-citizens. You can see where this goes. The noble man has been brutally stabbed in the back and his fruits and wallet are being taken from him while he’s down.

The social contract has been amended and parts nullified every 20 years or so to the point that we no longer have anything similar to what existed 100, 200 years ago.

You will see noble men choose to stay in “Neverland” or quietly exit to their own way or something in between.

The lines between boy and man are slowly being widened and blurred to introduce a new meta. The Dude.
Something in-between. The Nonparticipating partisan. The coward with no reward and yet no punishment.
No fulfillment and no pain.
He can eat without gathering, romance without personhood. Para-social habits, synthetic emotions and digital bonds.

These traits were constructed in exchange for his participation. “Good enough” has become the greater of exalted.
The Dude rests peacefully, as nothing disturbs his sleep and yet, nothing wakes him.
He eats as he needs, the food is neither appetizing nor is he starved to death.

Abundance has created a virtue out of mediocrity. The opposite is to suffer for exceptionalism.
