Always nice to get home after a long day at work to a warm welcome at the gate . I’d be grateful if you have an issue with me and my views if you could express it without killing innocent animals . What do you think @DailyMailUK@BASCnews ?
Arrived at Bridgwater and Taunton College to attend their OU awards board as external examiner for their BA Health & Social Care programme. It’s an excellent course, and it’s a tad worrisome that FE colleges can do HE so well.
So imagine my surprise when I congratulated a student yesterday on conquering her obvious nervousness when doing an assessed presentation and she replied “yes, I couldn’t look at you without wanting to vomit!” #funny
UoC are hosting an Advanced HE Nerworking Event for HEA Fellowship Approved Programs. It’s great see a good attendance from across the country. Interesting opening session about D1 recognition for undergrads at University of Ulster.
The conference is to be closed with the Fire Service Choir. This draws strong parallels with earlier sessions - especially Kat’s keynote. The choir express the power of singing in memorial and mental health. #uocfhscpgr
Dr Gill Buck presents an interesting autoethnography project reflecting on her own experiences in juggling the competing demands of having a life, being an academic in HE and a researcher. Good news... it is possible. #uocfhscpgr
A further touching tribute to the late Jane Walker from Dr Gill Buck in the opening of her session. In particular Gill emphasised Jane’s recent masters research and the impact that has had within supporting practice learning in social work. #uocfhscpgr
The final afternoon session of plenary presentations opened by Sondra Butterworth, a PhD student considering a study on a rare skin disease. There was much to like about the session but I particularly liked the focus on impact - such an important aspect of PhD study. #uocfhscpgr
Closing the first afternoon session are Associate Dean of Faculty Julie Bailey-McHale, Associate Professor Vicky Ridgway, and Senior Lecturer Bex Bailey-McHale illustrating how to integrate small fund research projects together to form a coherent research project #uocfhscpgr
