I started writing since I was a little girl.

My English teacher always complimented my stories after I wrote them and told me how much she enjoyed reading them.

She always tells me to improve the ending part of my stories, because I somehow always kill off my characters. (I couldn’t help it)

Her brutal honesty made me improve my writing, and today, I am ranked Number 1 in Writing & Storytelling on LinkedIn in the whole Country, but that’s not the point.

As a writer, learn to be open to feedback and reviews. I know how many messages I get in a day by different writers asking for my review on a certain piece, because they know me to be exceptionally blunt and honest.

Understand that the editing is also part of the writing process. Toughen up and improve.

Unpaid exposure is the biggest scam in the writing industry.

You cannot pay your rent with a byline.
You cannot eat a "great opportunity for your portfolio."
You cannot build a career on clients who think your craft is not worth anything.

Your words have value. Charge accordingly.

Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Except your volunteering, stop writing for free.
