Today, FIDA-Kenya organized a multi-stakeholder validation workshop to review and finalize the Early Warning Framework (EWF) for Digital Violence Against Women (DVAW) ahead of Kenya's 2027 General Elections. The workshop brought together representatives from government institutions, electoral stakeholders, civil society organizations, technology actors, development partners, and women's rights organizations to strengthen coordinated action against technology-facilitated violence targeting women in political and electoral processes.
Through the discussions and technical review sessions, participants validated the framework, provided valuable recommendations, and reached consensus on coordinated prevention, reporting, referral, and response mechanisms. The meeting also strengthened institutional ownership of a shared commitment to safeguarding women's political participation in the digital space. FIDA-Kenya Board Member, @Mudaye2 opened the meeting.

STATEMENT: Sharon Otieno was abducted on 3rd September 2018, and her lifeless body (alongside that of her unborn child), was found in a thicket near Kodera Forest in Homa Bay County on 4th September 2018. Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero were charged with her murder. The case has since become one of Kenya's most closely followed criminal trials.

@fidakenya Chairperson, @wakilickungu led the board and Secretariat on a courtesy visit to the @LawSocietyofKe . They were welcomed by the Vice President @twavinya. During the meeting, both organisations reflected on their long partnership and discussed ways to work together more closely to promote justice in Kenya and support the legal profession.

The two organisations spoke about partnering to improve access to justice, support gender equality, and take on public-interest cases. Other topics included law reform, legal aid, community outreach, public legal education, and protecting women's rights. The two groups also discussed teaming up on leadership and mentorship for advocates, ongoing professional training, mediation and alternative dispute resolution, election readiness, Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) initiatives, and ways to make the justice system in Kenya more inclusive, ethical, and responsive to the needs of the people.

The FIDA-Kenya team at the meeting included Ms Cynthia Osiro (Vice Chairperson), @AngelaMwadumbo (Secretary), @pchepkemboi1 (Up Country Representative), @Mudaye2 (Member), @iluville (Board Member), @kaibiria (Executive Director), @KadzoYambo (Senior Legal Counsel), @Valdivia_GYF (Policy and Advocacy Officer), and Ms Barbara Owino (Legal Counsel).
