In our language there’s no he, she, him or her. Just they or them.
Oo wakaheegan - their house.
Oo doodaabaan - their vehicle.
Ween - them.
Simple. Everyone’s equal. Not male or female. Just a person.
In our culture it’s disrespectful to look someone in the eye. Especially an elder or one in authority.
Totally opposite in the western world. You’re seen as shady or suspicious avoiding eye contact.
It’s not easy to keep switching worlds. But be mindful of differences.
Back on Twitter. Co-Chairing AFN Special Chiefs Assembly this week with Wina Sioui. Lots of debate. Diverse views. Great to see Chiefs across the country unite for children and families.
