The protests in Ireland are not about just fuel! They are about the distance between Ireland on this graph and every other modern and developed economy. Ireland is second wealthiest but gets waaaaay less than any other country for that wealth. By a golden mile.
That visual gap in this graph? That’s what people are protesting. It’s a lack of infrastructure and the everyday enshittification of services, the economy, and the additional difficulty of trying to live, relative to peers in any other country. It also highlights why people don’t get uniformly listened to! - because there is no government architecture to engage meaningfully across this huge gap.
That gap is a three hour drive to work in traffic, a 14 month wait for an MRI, buses that don’t arrive, trains that don’t exist, schools that have no places for your kids, houses that are unaffordable, pubs that close before midnight, €12 sandwiches, expensive fuel.
People feel this gap, even if they can’t explain it precisely. And that builds into resentment, and ultimately protest. Fuel just happened to be the next thing that could be pointed to, today.
Walking along the Royal Canal this morning, the sun on the water and the quiet of the path would nearly make you forget the reality we’re living through — a reality where those in Dáil Éireann, entrusted as servants of the People, have instead abandoned their constitutional duty. We have a Government pressing beyond its lawful authority, shielding corruption, and betraying the Republic they swore to uphold.
But mornings like this remind me why I keep going. Our Constitution was enacted by the People in 1937 for a reason — to place the limits, the protections, and the power in our hands, not in the fists of the few. Today it’s being trampled by a Government drunk on its own impunity, while most TDs and Senators stand by in silence, watching the damage as though they carry no duty at all.
Still, I walk on — because I believe in something bigger than them. I believe in the Republic. I believe in the People. And if I do nothing else in this life, I hope that when I’m gone, the next generation will inherit a country where the Constitution means something again, where justice isn’t a privilege, and where no Government and no Attorney General’s office can twist the law to protect corruption.
This is our home. And I refuse to surrender it.

For the first time in my life I am going to spoil my vote, the men and women who fought and died for our freedom, would be turning in their grave if they saw that the Irish people were not given the freedom to choose their own
President, only choose from the two trick pony’s allowed through by government. Use your vote. https://t.co/SOzRiKdhRt
JOHN MCGUIRK: "Make no mistake: The left tolerates violence. And I do not mean the hard left. I mean the respectable types in the newspapers and on the telly who pretend to be civilised but know exactly to what a blind eye must be turned and when."

I saw this video this morning on my feed and I think it so eloquently explains what Charlie Kirk was put on this earth to do.
“When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence, that is when civil war happens”
🧵 THREAD: Everyone points to “15k+ homeless” as the homeless crisis. That’s the smokescreen. The real crisis is the half a million adults still stuck in childhood bedrooms because housing has been made unaffordable, unattainable, and out of reach by Government design.
🧵 THREAD: CSO’s April 2025 housing data proves it: the govt has destroyed the housing market. Median home €365,000. Average salary €50k. Mortgage cap = 4× income = €200,000. That leaves a €165,000 hole. The State hard-wired homelessness into the rules for average workers.👇
