[CA Vivek Khatri @CaVivekkhatri]

Mishra is right that tax is not the main reason.

Foreign money looks at three things: return, risk and effort.

Here are the 10 real problems:

1. The US 10-year government bond now pays about 5%, in dollars, with almost no risk.
2. India's 10-year pays about 7.5%. The extra return is under 2.5 points.
3. The rupee is near 94.8 to the dollar. A falling rupee eats that small gap.
4. Brent oil is above $110. India imports most of its oil, so the rupee takes the hit.
5. The AI boom is pulling emerging-market money towards Taiwan and Korea chip makers.
6. Indian shares still cost more per rupee of profit than other emerging markets, even after the fall.
7. Paperwork: a fund must show who owns it, right down to each individual person.
8. Rules change through frequent circulars, so a fund can't plan five years ahead.
9. Tax fights over treaty benefits can drag on in court for years.
10. Approvals and court cases move slowly, and foreign money counts the waiting as a cost.

All 10 are fixable, and none is about India's growth.

Indian savers are already buying what foreigners sell.

Money doesn't leave India because India got weaker. It leaves when the extra return from holding India becomes smaller than the effort of owning it.

If India cut this tax to zero tomorrow, would a fund earning 5% in US bonds fill out Indian forms for 7.5%?

Dearest FM Madam @nsitharaman ji,

I have said it before. And I'll repeat it again. Loud & Crystal Clear.

LTCG of 12.5% on Equities is one of the Lowest in the World. True. Great.

But there are a few issues:

1. LTCG was ZERO from 2004 to 2018. STT was introduced to offset the Loss in Revenue. It incentivised Long Term Investors to Hold on Patiently and enjoy Long Term Returns. I believe that Step was something Golden and rewards Long Term Thinking. FM Madam should reconsider this. Keep STT. Abolish LTCG.

2. STT is already taken for every transaction. This is a tax. Again putting Capital Gain, especially on Long Term Gains is not Ok. This is my Opinion. STT is borne by the investor irrespective of Profit or Loss.

3. We are not against Paying Taxes. In fact, we all Pay Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, GST, Excise, VAT, Health, Education Cess, Tax on Dividends and what not. The problem is the Freebies which are Distributed during the Elections. This is not at all ok. We don't want a single rupee of our Capital Gains to be used for Freebies. Please.

I humbly request the FM Madam to Abolish LTCG on Equities. Make the Long Term Period 24 months instead of 12 months. You will see Patient Capital Flowing In👍

For Indian Investors like me, the Pain is lesser. Our Portfolios are Doing Great. We will continue to Create Wealth.

But what about our FII brothers & sisters. They also deserve to get minimum returns in Dollar Terms.

I feel for the FIIs who have suffered due to declining Rupee and they still have to pay STT & Capital Gains on Rupee Terms. Something the FM Madam and team should revisit.

I think that it is a good time to implement this. FII no longer control our markets. Domestic Funds are consistent and plenty. If FIIs leave, let them Leave with Head Held High. That is our Responsibility.

India Structurally is Brilliant. Let's make it Tax Friendly as well.

Patient Capital will Flow More & Stay, if these Steps are Taken.

A Proud Indian Investor,
#FI

A guy will buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max this month.

He'll transfer his data from his old phone. He'll set a wallpaper. He'll arrange his apps. He'll open Instagram. And for the next 2 years, he'll use the most advanced smartphone ever built to scroll social media, send texts, take photos on auto mode, and check email the same 5 tasks he performed on the iPhone 13 Pro he's replacing.

He won't discover the variable aperture camera that gives him DSLR-level depth-of-field control for the first time in iPhone history. He won't configure the Action Button that replaces 3 daily app-hunting routines with a single press. He won't set the battery charge limit that adds 2 years to the battery's lifespan. He won't use Back Tap to launch shortcuts by tapping the back of the phone twice. He won't adjust the flashlight beam width from spotlight to floodlight. He won't activate the keyboard trackpad hidden inside the spacebar. He won't turn on StandBy mode that transforms the phone into a bedside smart display while charging.

His coworker a former Apple Store Genius who spent 4 years watching customers use 20% of their iPhones told him the iPhone 18 Pro Max ships with iOS 27 and approximately 400 features most owners never open.

"The phone doesn't need to be more powerful. You need to explore more than 20% of what's already there."

She showed him 11 hidden features that transform the iPhone 18 Pro Max from a $1,499 social media scroller into the device Apple actually built.

Netflix has 260 million subscribers. Netflix is betting that 250 million of them never open the settings menu.

One guy did. He worked Netflix customer support for 3 years. Handled 15,000 complaints. He told me something that should change the way you watch tonight:

"Every single complaint I got for 3 years was caused by the same 10 settings. Not bugs. Not content. Settings."

"'Why is my picture blurry?' Because Netflix set your streaming quality to Auto which doesn't mean best quality. It means lowest quality Netflix can get away with before you notice."

"'Why are my recommendations terrible?' Because 3 people are watching on your profile and the algorithm thinks you're one person who loves true crime, kids cartoons, and Korean dramas at the same time."

"'Why does every movie look like a soap opera?' Because a motion smoothing setting you've never seen is turned on making a $200 million film look like it was shot on a phone."

"'Why do I scroll for 45 minutes and give up?' Because autoplay previews are feeding the algorithm false data every single time you pause on a thumbnail. Netflix thinks you're interested. You were just reading the description. Now your homepage is full of content you'd never watch because you accidentally trained the algorithm to recommend it."

"'Why can't I find anything good?' Because your content maturity rating is set to a default that hides 40% of the library. Shows and movies that exist on your account right now that you're paying for right now are invisible to you because of one setting you've never checked."

"I spent 3 years answering the same 10 complaints. Every single time the fix was the same: 'Let me walk you through your settings.' Every single time the customer said the same thing: 'Why didn't Netflix tell me this?'"

"Because Netflix makes more money when you scroll. Not when you find something."

Here are 10 Netflix settings that are ruining your experience right now and exactly how to fix each one in under 5 minutes:

[BhikuMhatre @MumbaichaDon]

Dear friend @ARanganathan72 Ji, I hope u find this post in good taste as I'm writing this in capacity of a Finance Professor & not as Modi-Bhakt.

“Modi Govt borrowed ₹154 lakh crore!”

Correct. Now let's apply some basic Financial Management before screaming “DEBT = BAD”.

A Govt doesn't borrow just to put money in a bank account.

It borrows to create assets that generate economic activity for decades.

From 2014-15 to 2026-27:

🔹 Central Capex: ₹1.81 lakh cr → ₹12.22 lakh cr — nearly 7X

🔹 National Highways: 91,287 km → ~1.46 lakh km

🔹 Airports: ~74 → 160

🔹 Railway broad-gauge electrification: 99.6%

🔹 Rural roads: 7.8 lakh km built during 2014-25

🔹 Renewable capacity: 76 GW → ~289 GW

🔹 Solar: 2.8 GW → ~165 GW — nearly 60X

Now comes the REAL financial-management question:

What is the return on that borrowed money?

RBI research estimates that ₹1 of Central Government capital expenditure can generate up to ₹3.25 of additional GDP through the fiscal multiplier—and public investment can crowd in private investment.

That's the point.

If the government had refused to borrow, it had only two choices:

1️⃣ Don't build the infrastructure.

OR

2️⃣ Raise substantially more taxes to finance it.

And taxing citizens/businesses heavily to fund infrastructure would take purchasing power out of the private economy while reducing the capital available for private investment.

Instead, the government borrowed at sovereign rates (which are way lower than commercial lending rates) and deployed a much larger share of expenditure into productive capital formation.

And here's the kicker:

Taxes weren't simply increased to pay for this borrowing.

Bharat's direct-tax-to-GDP ratio reached 6.7% in FY2024-25—the highest in three decades—while tax administration and compliance improved.

At the same time, the government has actually delivered major tax relief—including raising the income-tax threshold to ₹12 lakh in Budget 2025-26.

Not to forget, Modi Sarkar has substantially reduced Indirect Taxes too with GST reforms. I need not tell readers how CONgress led UPA Govt was squeezing consumers with high indirect taxes & that too with cascading effect. "Tax on Tax" was what consumers paying under UPA Govt run by so-called economists.

So the Modi Sarkar model is:

Borrow → Build productive assets → Increase economic capacity → Crowd-in private investment → Grow the tax base → Consolidate fiscal deficit → Give tax relief.

That's fundamentally different from UPA Govt's useless model which was:

Borrow → Spend on consumption → Borrow again to pay for yesterday's spending.

Debt is not automatically good.

Unproductive debt is dangerous.

But borrowing to create infrastructure whose economic return exceeds the cost of borrowing?

That's not “destroying the economy”.

That's using the balance sheet to build the economy.

The question isn't:

“How much did Modi borrow?”

The question is:

“What did India get in return?”

And on that question, the numbers are VERY uncomfortable for the critics.

I hope Anand ji that I'm able to remove all your concerns & worries over Govt Debt.

I rest my case.

Last time Jupiter and Ketu was in conjunction in Cancer sign, V P Singh govt fell in 1990 then Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated too. Morarji Desai resigned in 1979 when Jupiter was in Cancer. Also Charan Singh was removed from Home Ministry who entered with huge farmers' rally in Delhi of approx 200,000 people. In 2026 with Jupiter in Cancer, education minister had to resign and youth agitation is already underway. Whenever Jupiter goes to Cancer sign, it creates some trouble to Govt for sure. But this time Jupiter is Atichari, so Modi Govt is here to stay.
