“Nothing could have prepared me for the grandeur of those waters.”
Tom Skerritt, who played Reverend Maclean in the 1992 film “A River Runs Through It,” has died at 93. Three decades after filming in Montana, he returned to the Gallatin River to help document the threats facing the waters that had captivated him.
Skerritt also served on the board of American Rivers and supported river conservation efforts in Montana.
Rest in peace, Tom Skerritt. 1933–2026.

The turkey woods lost one of the very best. Col. Tom Kelly, author of “The Tenth Legion” and longtime Field & Stream contributor, has died at 99.
This spring, the gobblers will sound off without him. We’ll miss you, Colonel.
He used the last decade working his way up from deckhand to Sitka fishing lodge owner.
“Let’s go fishing. I just want to take people fishing.” — Captain Mike Allen
That’s Mike front and center, halibut in hand. He first came to Sitka to fish at 12. Eleven working seasons later, he now owns & operates Cast Alaska.
The collab nobody asked for, but fishing might actually need. Total damage: $32.
An angler walked into Goodwill, found an adult Wilson titanium tennis racquet for $4, and saw something other than a backhand. He stripped it down, sanded and painted the frame, added a clear coat, replaced the grip with waterproof heat-shrink fishing rod grip, and fitted it with a 15-inch Fishpond replacement net.
🎾 🎣 The oversized tennis frame gives him plenty of hoop for the net and a long handle for leverage. And yes, according to its builder, the finished “Fishpond x Wilson” floats. Not a bad piece of budget DIY engineering.
