Don't miss out on our monthly webinar! Join us Dec 7th (9:00 UTC) as Dr. Morelia Urlaub discusses flank instability and collapse at marine volcanoes! Information and registration here: https://t.co/oTkSk74e6k
#dggv#jdggv#jungedggv
And that brings the 2023 Oceanic Volcanism: Stronger Together workshop to a close. Thank you to the hosting-organizing team of @GEOMAR_de@GEOMAR_en and support from @IAVCEI_official to make this happen. We look forward to next time, when and wherever it may be! #StrongerTogether
Next up was @Fiene_Matthies presenting preliminary results from her PhD titled “The Influence of the Volcano Geometry and the Rock Mechanical Properties on the Edifice Stability of Oceanic Volcanoes: A Case-Study of Anak-Krakatau (Sunda Strait, Indonesia)”
Looking deeper into the subsurface beneath Anak Krakatau's waters to understand how volcanoes cause tsunamis

Starting with deploying the streamers and airgun in the waters near Anak Krakatau, to processing and interpreting seismic lines. In total, we have acquired 330 km of seismic data!
@GEOMAR_en
Successfully completed a gravity coring session overnight, collecting 34 meters of sediments composed of mud, ash, and ignimbrite! These samples will be described and analyzed in both Germany 🇩🇪 and Indonesia 🇮🇩
@GEOMAR_en
The REET project involves geophysical and sedimentological measurements. Everything was in full swing before we reached our working area at Anak Krakatau! 🌊
@GEOMAR_en
Greetings form Bakauheni, Indonesia! We were thrilled to have our guests and collaborators from @brin_indonesia joining the REET project on the RV Sonne
@geomar_en
🚢First cruise of the PRE-COLLAPSE team altogether! We are aboard the RV Sonne, sailing from Singapore and heading towards Mauritius via Anak Krakatau! 🌊

Our team led by @SeverineFurst discuss the ideas of:
1️⃣ why erupting volcanoes are perceived as more prone to collapse
2️⃣ whether eruptive activity can indicate collapse at marine volcanoes 🌋🌊
