A small community in Fife, who campaigned to protect its environment, residents and climate from a proposed development to build a gas power station and won!
This is the climate disaster that Fife Councillors will considering at appeal on the 27th January 2020. It’s just 250 metres from the village of Hillend in Fife, Scotland. It will produce deadly NOx, Carbon Monxide and 29 Million kg of carbon per year!
I’ve called for an urgent independent inquiry into the future of Exxonmobil’s Mossmorran plant – One of Scotland’s biggest polluters and worst neighbours https://t.co/z7bV26Cc1q
Powerful words from Sir David Attenborough in Edinburgh tonight on climate crisis...the world now recognises and accepts change is needed now - “there is light on the horizon...the future is in our hands” #ClimateChange
I couldn’t agree more! Not once was the climate emergency raised today by Councillors, not once did they ask about carbon emissions or climate impact! Planning policy needs to catchup urgently!!
Very pleased this got thrown out. We need energy storage not more fossil fuel power stations or waste incinerators. Time for planning guidance to be changed..
After 4 hours of deliberation the gas peaking plant was rejected on air quality concerns and visual amenity e.g. it’s too ugly/industrial for its location. This proves that when communities come together they can fight back to defend their environment and climate from harm!
Please join the peaceful protest today at Fife Council HQ in Glenrothes to say enough is enough! The climate emergency is real! Stop increasing carbon emissions! 😷 @FoEScot@ScotlandXr @fife_greens @scotgp@Richard_Dixon@FifeCouncil
Read this article from ‘The Scotsman’ this week, that explains why the gas power station at Hillend most not go ahead! Let’s see if the 2 x SNP, 1 Lab, 1 Lib Dem and 1 Con Councillors on the Committee are as commited to protecting local air quality and the climate as they say!?
Just heard a copy of great slogans from a neighbour for their banner they plan to use at tomorrow’s peaceful protest at Fife House! ‘Fife Council - Don’t be a fossil fool!’ ‘Fife Council - be the solution not the pollution!’ @STVLauraPiper @KKeaneBBC@Ilonaamos@dunfermlinep
In 24 hours Fife Councillors will be considering approving a second gas peaking plant in Fife, this time at Hillend at a planning appeal hearing. The Planning Officer doesn’t like it and neither does SEPA or the NHS. Common sense must prevail! #ClimateEmergency
