It is fascinating to see how a designer envisaged a garment alongside the actual piece. Glowing turquoise in crepe & velvet with a twinkle of beads were captured on paper by #Lanvin in 1919 & brought to life in cloth. #patrimoinelanvin#fashionhistory

Crafted in intricate guipure lace, the halter-neck column dress is first hand-painted and then hand-embroidered to create an optical illusion of 3D flowers.

These went for FIVE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. Bidder, who are you. I must know. I have seen only three cut-and-sewn knit fabric garments for the entirety of the 18th c through 1870. I must know more about the apparent bolts of knit fabric available pre-Sears catalog.
@TheGloveCollect@Fashion_Museum@GloversLiveryCo Interesting! Are you saying the beads here were embroidered on to machine-knit fabric? In most beaded knitting the beads are strung on to the thread before knitting, making machine knitting impossible.

Blue tinted lenses indicate these spectacles were for outdoor use. They protected from bright sunlight. They are a Victorian version of the sunglasses we wear today. Prescription lenses help correct vision.
