@unioncanalswans @davids_999 @Ricowellss @EdinburghNats@EdinWildlife@RSPBEdinburghLG@RSPBScotland That’s Bonnie 🙂 When other swans briefly arrive they live up to their namesakes! We quite often get park visitors to name some of our stars, like Bowie the Kingfisher or Jerry (Mandarin Duck - from a few years back).
@davids_999 @Ricowellss @EdinburghNats@EdinWildlife@RSPBEdinburghLG@RSPBScotland Our male Mute Swan, Clyde, is getting on a bit. He has arthritis in that leg - the RSPB come out periodically to check on him and keep us updated with his status. Videos like this are useful for us keeping the RSPB up to date as well.
@dcullen_photo @Ricowellss @EdinburghNats@EdinWildlife@RSPBEdinburghLG@RSPBScotland Sadly, given it’s arthritis, nothing can be done to ‘fix’ it. So it’s a case of monitoring his quality of life. Certainly he’s slowed down - he wouldn’t normally put up with the number of geese on the Pond just now!
There’s understandably a lot of excitement over our recent Waxwings, and the Kingfisher being more visible. But wander the Park and leafless trees make it easier to see some of our little, more regular stars. Like this wee Goldcrest (one of a pair).
@carolynhargest @cbvz57 @birdinglothian@myparkscot@vikingoptical Not as often (in the daylight) these days. There was a den a few years back where you could see 6 or 7 at a time sunbathing in the summer. All inaccessible so great for them. Even occasionally saw new kits. Now usually only at night, but sometimes get lucky in daylight.
⭐️A VERY BIG THANK YOU to Duddingston Afterschool Kidzcare Club for their generous donation this week ....They held a Tombola and raised £144 for our Playpark Appeal. ⭐️

What a beautiful morning for the opening of Treverlen Park.
The new skate park was already busy at 8am - all ages 4 to 40 ! Great to see ... and the football pitch was busy with a school game.
Just goes to show - if you build it they will come. #figgateplaypark
@Ricowellss @RSPBEdinburghLG@EdinburghNats Widgeon is unusual for us! I’ve seen once or twice (and Teal) but usually in the depths of winter. Must get down for a gander.
Pair of Little Grebes in the Figgate today. We’ve not had a pair in ages - bred here a few years back. Fingers crossed! (shots are of one, the other kept more of a distance!)
Big shout out to Figgate Park which achieved “Much Loved” status in Fields in Trust’s UK’s Best Park 2019 award. The overall winner of UK’s Best Park 2019 will be announced on 12 Sept, for more info https://t.co/QSOTeYHrVD @FiggatePark@FieldsInTrust @Edinburgh_CC@
